Lorrys Island End Motel Long Beach Island NJ LBI NJ - Beach Haven NJ - LBI Great Vacation
About 4 Feet Of Water From Superstorm Sandy Surrounded Lorry's
History Of Lorry's Re-Opening Jan 16, 2013 (After Superstorm Sandy On October 29, 2012)
Oct. 28, 2012On the day before Superstorm Sandy, ALL 12 rooms at Lorry's Motel were 100% occupied. We told all of the Guests that Lorry's was closing and we were shutting off the utilities because it was a mandatory evacuation and they must leave Lorry's Motel and get off of LBI. Surprisingly I had to make some Guests leave NOW. Oct. 29, 2012Superstorm Sandy Hit Long Beach Island, NJ and after getting all of Lorry's Guests out first, I had to be evacuated by the N.J. National Guard. Take my word for it, the situation was very scary. I wasn't scared for my life at that point, but I did ask GOD to get me out of here.
Nov. 9 , 2012 Lorry's LBI Motel Owner, Bill Hutson, was allowed back onto Long Beach Island and saw Lorry's Island End Motel for the first time since Superstorm Sandy. Thankfully Lorry's Motel was still standing.
Thank God Lorry's Long Beach Island Motel Had Little Damage Compared To Surrounding Jersey Shore Communities, And Yes We Have Flood Insurance. God Willing, Lorry's Motel will be better than ever.
However, The Most Amazing Thing Was 95% Of Our PVC Fence Around Lorry's Was Still Standing, And It Is Still Here Today. The same tidal wave that washed houses off their foundations and pilings, did not tear down and wash away Lorry's PVC fence. The Only Answer Is That It's A God Thing.
Even though Lorry's Motel was still standing and was all in one piece, it was like being in the 18th century as we had no electric, natural gas, no heat, lights or water & sewer. You couldn't even flush the toilet because there was no water to flush the toilet.
The one and only working toilet at this end of Long Beach Island was at Farreny's Family Trailer Park at the Bay. People would stand in the Bay water to fill buckets and hand them up to throw the water in the toilet to flush it. As you can imagine, this got old very quick.
Owner's Comment - I don't know how they got anything done in the 18th century with none of today's modern conveniences. We Are So Blessed And Should Thank God For Everything We Have.
I was homeless for about 100 days and thankfully lived at King Of Kings Church (where I am a Member) on Rt. 9 in Manahawkin while we were quickly renovating Lorry's Island End Motel. Nov. 9 - 18, 2012 The first 10 days were spent just trying to get all the storm debris (tree limbs, garbage, mud, etc.) off Lorry's Motel property, plus throw everything out that was on the first floor. To get everything out of the rooms on the first floor was a very big job as it was all soaking wet and very heavy. It took days to throw it all in front of Lorry's Motel and stack it up and months until we could get it taken away. January 16, 2013 Lorry's Island End Motel Office Re-Opened and soon thereafter Guests drove up to make LBI reservations. You Can't Think Negative And Lead A Positive Life Pastor Joel Osteen February 3, 2013 Lorry's LBI Motel 2nd Floor Re-Opened and we checked in a returning Guest. Thankfully Lorry's Motel re-opened the 2nd floor and we will continue to renovate the 1st floor six days a week and we have our heat at 85% capacity and electric at 90% capacity. March 1, 2013 Lorry's Motel 2nd floor is 100% occupied at this time with Contractors, Displaced People & Families from Superstorm Sandy.
March 15, 2013 Lorry's heat is at 100% capacity. March 20, 2013 Lorry's electric wiring is at 95% capacity. April 15, 2013 Lorry's electric wiring is at 100% capacity. April 19, 2013 Thank God Lorry's Motel Re-Opened 2 rooms on our first floor, room # 4 and room # 5 with a reservation. Room # 6 which is on the first floor is also close to re-opening soon. April 26, 2013 Comcast Cable in Lorry's open rooms is now operating at 100%. May 1, 2013 Thankfully Room # 6 Re-Opened on the first floor and we have reservations this weekend for all 3 newly re-opened rooms on the first floor. May 13, 2013 Lorry's Motel Re-Opened Room # 1 on the 1st floor, our 4th room re-opened on the the 1st floor. Also, Room # 3 is very close to re-opening, May 16, 2013 Lorry's Island End Motel Re-Opened Room # 3 on the 1st Floor, our 5th room re-opened on the 1st floor. Thank God we only have one more room to re-open, Room # 2.
June 11, 2013 Thank God Lorry's Re-Opened Room # 2 and ALL our 12 Rooms Have Re-Opened. July 1, 2013 Thankfully Lorry's Island End Motel Is Better Than Ever.

As you can see above, Superstorm Sandy on October 29, 2012 was devastating. The LBI oceanfront houses and other houses were almost wiped out and the dunes were gone. It was a massive job to put Long Beach Island back together for the 2013 season, but Thank God LBI did re-open for the 2013 season.
Lorry's Motel is extremely grateful and we have previously said many times, Thank God Lorry's Island Motel Survived Superstorm Sandy, possibly the most most devasting hurricane property damage in U.S. history.
Thankfully we had flood insurance, and all our contractors and many volunteers like The Amish, Christ In Action, etc. helped Lorry's Motel Quickly Re-Open And Have A Great 2013 Season with about 2,000 Guests.
